Mr. Norfleet - Director of Bands

     Mr. Norfleet is in his 17th year of teaching and is the founding band director of the Union Band Program, having been at Union since the school opened in 2007. From the first year with 100 students, the program has grown to serve over 200 musicians at Union High School and offers students a wide variety of musical opportunities.  The program's fundamental emphasis continues to be excellence on and off the stage. Prior to teaching at Union, Mr. Norfleet taught at Evergreen High School, North Salem High School and Oregon State University. Norfleet’s ensembles have performed at the Midwest Clinic, Washington Music Educators State Conference, Fiesta Bowl, Oahu Bowl, and the National Concert Hall in Taiwan. His programs were also recognized as Oregon State Concert Band Champions, three-time Northwest Marching Band Circuit Champions, and were twice named a Grammy Signature School.

Mr. Norfleet is also active as a composer and arranger having produced over 250 works for concert band, jazz band, symphony orchestra, marching band and percussion ensemble. While most of his works have been privately commissioned, some have been published by Tapspace Publications, Matrix Publishing, Jalen Publishing, Marching Monk, Center X Productions, and Marching Show Concepts. He is also the co-conductor of the Southwest Washington Wind Symphony and is an endorsed adjudicator for the Oregon Band Directors Association. He is an alumnus of the University of Oregon.

Mr. Siess - Assistant Band Director, Orchestra Director

     Mr. Siess joined the faculty at Union in the fall of 2011 where he directs the Symphonic Band, String Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble 2. In his 28 years of teaching, he has been Director of Bands at South Salem HS, Beaverton HS, Mountain View HS, and Cascade Middle School. He bands won numerous contests and festivals, including two Oregon State Band Contests. The "Blue Thunder" Marching Band at Mountain View appeared in the Fiesta Bowl and Pasadena Tournament of Roses parades. The String Orchestra at Union recently performed at the 2012 Washington Music Educators State Conference.
     During his tenure in Salem, OR, Mr. Siess conducted the Salem Concert Band; currently he and Mr. Norfleet co-conduct the Southwest Washington Wind Symphony. Mr. Siess holds degrees from Linfield College and the Eastman School of Music.
